Fresh snowfall in many areas of the higher reaches of Kashmir has led to the closure of two national highways, while rains lashed the plains of the valley, the meteorological department said on Sunday. Under the influence of a western disturbance, the higher reaches, including Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Yousmarg, Gurez, Razdan Top, and Sonamarg-Zojila Axis, received light to moderate snowfall overnight, officials said. The fresh snowfall led to the closure of the Srinagar-Leh national Highway and the Bandipora-Gurez road.

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Saturday predicted a fresh spell of intermittent rain and snowfall across Jammu and Kashmir from March 28 to March 30, The MET department has warned of moderate snowfall over higher reaches of north and central Kashmir, accompanied by thunder and gusty winds during the night of March 28 to 30. It also cautioned about the possibility of landslides at vulnerable locations. The department has advised farmers to suspend farm operations on March 29 and 30. Travellers have been urged to follow traffic advisories and plan their movement accordingly.
