India has registered 3,57,229 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours. The top five states which have registered maximum cases are Maharashtra with 48,621 cases, followed by Karnataka with 44,438 cases, Uttar Pradesh with 29,052 cases, Kerala with 26,011 cases and Tamil Nadu with 20,952 Covid-19 cases. Of the new Covid-19 cases, 47.33 per cent are reported from these five states, with Maharashtra alone responsible for 13.61 per cent of the new cases. A total of 3,449 people died from the Covid-19 infection in the past 24 hours. The maximum fatalities were reported in Maharashtra (567), followed by Delhi with 448 daily deaths.The total tally of COVID-19 cases in the country has climbed to 2,02,82,833.The health ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.
Registering a steady increase, the active cases have increased to 34,47,133 comprising 17 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 81.91 per cent, the data updated at 8 am showed.The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1, 66,13,292, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.10 per cent, the data stated.According to the ICMR, 29,33,10,779 samples have been tested up to May 3 with 16,63,742 samples being tested on Monday.
The Health Ministry has said more than 2.15 lakh beneficiaries of age group 18-44 have received their first doses of the Covid-19 vaccine in the last 24 hours. More than 4 lakh total vaccine doses have administered to 18-44 age group till now.
