India on Sunday reported 27,553 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours. This is 21 per cent higher. This pushed the active case tally to 1,22,801, according to data from the Union health ministry. As many as 22,775 new cases were reported on Saturday. The five states which registered the maximum cases in the last 24 hours are Maharashtra with 9,170 cases, followed by West Bengal with 4,512 cases, Delhi with 2,716 cases, Kerala with 2,435 cases and Tamil Nadu with 1,489 cases. Nearly 75 per cent of the new cases were reported from these five states, with Maharashtra alone responsible for 33.28 per cent of them. The maximum Covid deaths in 24 hours on Sunday were reported in Kerala (241), followed by West Bengal with nine deaths. With 9,249 people recovering from the disease in the last 24 hours, total recoveries climbed to 3,42,84,561. The recovery rate currently stands at 98.27 per cent.
Meanwhile, the number of Omicron variant cases in the country has crossed 1,500 and currently stands at 1,525. Maharashtra topped the charts with 460 cases. Delhi is the second-most contributor of the highly transmissible Omicron with 351 cases, followed by Gujarat (136), Tamil Nadu (117) and Kerala (109).As part of the ongoing vaccination drive, 145.44 crore vaccine doses have, so far, been administered across the country.
