US President Donald Trump on Friday said there has always been tensions between India and Pakistan and the two countries will figure it out between themselves “one way or the other”. “I am very close to India and I’m very close to Pakistan, as you know. And they’ve had that fight for 1,000 years in Kashmir. Kashmir has been going on for 1,000 years, probably longer than that. And it was a bad one, though, that was a bad one. Over 30 people,” Trump said during a press gaggle with reporters aboard Air Force One on the way to Rome.Responding to a question aboard Air Force One on the way to Rome, Trump said there have always been tensions between India and Pakistan, and the two countries will figure it out between themselves “one way or the other”.
The External Affairs Ministry on Friday briefed ambassadors of the US, Israel and Spain in Delhi on the Pahalgam terror attack. Talking to the media, Ambassador of Israel to India, Reuven Azar, said this is a watershed moment and Israel stands with India. He said they discussed terrorism as well as bilateral cooperation. India has launched a wide-reaching diplomatic campaign to inform other countries about the terror attack. External Affairs Ministry had also briefed ambassadors of select countries over the issue at the South Block in Delhi. Foreign envoys of nations including Germany, Japan, Poland, the UK and Russia were among those who were briefed.
Meanwhile, Iran has expressed its readiness to help foster better understanding between India and Pakistan. Citing its longstanding cultural and civilizational ties with both nations, Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said Tehran is willing to mediate during this challenging time. “India and Pakistan are brotherly neighbours of Iran, enjoying relations rooted in centuries-old cultural and civilizational ties. Like our other neighbours, we consider them a foremost priority. Tehran stands ready to use its good offices in Islamabad and New Delhi to forge greater understanding at this difficult time,” Araghchi posted on X.
Earlier this week, the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi also issued a strong statement condemning the attack. In a post on X, the embassy wrote: “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the government and people of India, especially to the families of the victims of this attack, and wish a speedy recovery and good health to the injured.”
