In Himachal Pradesh, out of the stranded team of trekkers at the Glacier point, 4 stranded Mountaineers and 7 porters reached to the ITBP stage 2 camp Dhar Thango. 4 porters and 2 dead bodies are still at the glacier point. It is expected that the rescue team will reach to the spot by Wednesday noon.
Meanwhile , a joint team of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Army and Civil Administration has been launched a rescue mission towards the higher reaches of Manali-Khamengar Pass- Manirang in Lahaul-Spiti. A team of mountaineers from west bengal and local porters were reportedly stranded at the high mountain range at approximately 18,000 feet. 14 members of the team including 3 trekkers and 11 porters are still stranded at the site.
As reported by the deputy leader of the expedition, who along with another member of the expedition reached the ITBP Camp, Kaza to seek rescue for the group on Monday that their expedition started from Manali on 17 September. On 25 September, while the team was passing down from Khamenger Pass, 02 members- Sandeep Kumar Thakurta, age- 48 years and Bhaskardeb Mukhopadhyaya, age-61 (Both from West Bengal) died due to mountain sickness.
The entire expedition team consisted of 17 members including 6 mountaineers, 1 Sherpa and 10 Civil Porters. The deputy leader further said that both the dead bodies are lying at the point along with other members of the expedition awaiting help. The ITBP, local administration at Kaza and the local Army detachment launched a rescue mission at 0300 AM on Tuesday, The rescue parties are fully equipped with all necessary mountaineering equipment, life saving medicines, oxygen cylinders and other rescue equipment. As per latest information, the rescue party reported to have reached the 1st stage at Chak Dhar and its advance party about to reach 2nd stage at Dhar Thango on the rescue team route. The 2nd stage will be from Chak Dhar to Dhar Thango. The 3rd stage will be from Dhar Thango to spot 5434 where the team is believed to have been stranded.
