Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has said that children in the entire world need to be vaccinated against Poliomyelitis only because Pakistan and Afghanistan failed to eradicate this disease from their countries, although Polio stands eradicated from the rest of the world. He said, similarly, India cannot be safe from coronavirus and COVID19 if rest of the world continues to be unsafe. The Minister said, if the poor and underdeveloped countries continue to harbour the Novel Coronavirus, we shall not be able to ensure safety for all. He said, a fair and equitable distribution of the vaccine is the biggest need of the hour. Dr Harsha Vardhan said, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India, has emerged as the world's pharmacy and it has supplied 5.51 crore COVID-19 vaccines to 62 different countries. Dr Harsh Vardhan said, we are 14 months into what is the biggest health crisis in our lifetime and almost 2 months into the world's largest COVID-19 vaccination drive.
-Union Minister Prakash Javadekar has said that doctors should prescribe generic medicines to help poor people. Except for complicated disease where there is a need for specific formulas, for other ailments the use of generic medicine should be encouraged. Javadekar was speaking on the occasion of 3rd Jan Aushadhi Diwas in Pune on Sunday. He announced to start a campaign for doctors to popularise the use of generic medicine in the country. The Minister said, Jammu and Kashmir has become the first state/UT to give free health services to residents irrespective of their income. He said, the country has 50,000 wellness centres and soon there will be 1.5 lakh such centres. He highlighted that, due to Prime Minister's vision these generic medicines are now available in various places and people are taking advantage of it.
-In Kerala, the Union Home minister Amit Shah inaugurated the valedictory function of the ‘Vijaya Yatra’ led by BJP State President K. Surendran. In the state capital Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, Shah attended the Core committee meeting of Kerala BJP and a seer summit at Sreerama Krishna Mutt.In his address Shah said that Kerala is the land of social reform and social renaissance, however, today it has become a land of political turmoils. He called for this election to be the beginning of the creation of a self-sufficient Kerala.
-Ministry of Textiles and Ministry of Agriculture have signed an MoU to amplify sericulture activities in the country in the presence of Textiles Minister Smriti Irani and Minister of State for Agriculture Parshottam Rupala. The MoU will focus on establishing tree based agro-forestry models in sericulture and exploring possibilities of activities through Krishi Vigyan Kendras.Ms Irani said, it will enhance training, boost technology and create sustainable livelihood for silk farmers or rearers. On the eve of International Women’s Day today, Ms Irani distributed Buniyaad Reeling Machines to women silk reelers with an aim to eradicate unhygienic and obsolete Thigh Reeling practice.
-Under the Vaccine Maitri initiative of the Government of India, two nations received the Made in India Covid-19 Vaccines. Planes carrying the consignments of vaccine doses landed in Guyana and Ethiopia. African nations Liberia and Somalia had received the Made in India Covid-19 Vaccines.
