GPS, Panic button mandatory in public passenger vehicles in Chhattisgarh

Sustainable Environment and Ecological Development Society and Dr. Rajendra Kumar Bhandari have been selected for the Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar for their excellent work in Disaster Management. Union Home Ministry announced the award every year on 23rd January, the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The award carries a cash prize of 51 lakh rupees and a certificate in case of an institution and five lakh rupees and a certificate in case of an individual.The Ministry said, Sustainable Environment and Ecological Development Society, SEEDS has done commendable work in building community resilience to disasters. It has been working towards disaster readiness, response, and rehabilitation, building local capacities and enabling risk reduction at the community level in different States of the country.Dr. Rajendra Kumar Bhandari is among the pioneers in India who laid the foundation of scientific studies on geo hazards in general and landslides in particular.

-In Chhattisgarh, GPS and panic buttons will be installed in all public passenger vehicles for the safety of women passengers. Transport Minister Mohammad Akbar said that a tracking device and command center will be set up to monitor the vehicles.All new vehicles have these features. In Chhattisgarh, GPS systems and panic buttons will be made compulsory in older vehicles also. The implementation of the scheme will cost around Rs. 15 crore. 60 percent of this expenditure will be borne by the Central Government and 40 percent by the State Government.The Central Government has released about Rs 4 crore from the Nirbhaya Fund to the State Government.All GPS will have two SIMs so that it remains connected to the network. Three types of passenger vehicles - two-wheelers, e-rickshaws and auto rickshaws, will be exempted from GPS and panic button system. In all other public passenger vehicles both these systems will be installed compulsorily. The command center will also get information about the closure of GPS in vehicle.

-Elon Musk’s SpaceX created a new world record by launching 143 satellites on a single rocket on Sunday night. SpaceX has beaten the Indian space agency ISRO's record of deploying 104 satellites in a single launch in February 2017. The launch vehicle for the SpaceX record-breaking flight was the Falcon 9 rocket.The 143 satellites launched last night include commercial and government CubeSats, microsats and 10 Starlink satellites. Onboard was also a spacecraft belonging to Nasa. With these satellites, SpaceX aims to provide near-global broadband internet coverage all over the world by 2021. According to sources, SpaceX offered a very low price of 15,000 dollars per kilogram for each satellite to be delivered to a polar sun-synchronous orbit.
-The 19th Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) concluded on Sunday. During the 9-day long festival which started on 16 January, 226 films from 73 countries were shown. Kyrgyz film ‘The Road to Eden’ jointly directed by Bakyt Mukul and Dastan Zhapar won the best film award at the festival. The film tells the struggle of an old writer who wishes to promote literature to bring enlightenment to his people. In the Asian competition section, the Best Director award was given to Ksenia Langutina for the film Farida. The film is jointly produced by Azerbaijan and Russia. Masud Hasan Ujjal won the Best Film Award in the Bangladesh Panorama section for his film ‘Unponchash Batash’ The Best Audience award was won by the film ‘Gondi’ directed by the Bangladeshi director Arefeen Khan.
Information Minister of Bangladesh Dr. Hasan Mehmud was the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony. Speaking on the occasion Dr. Mahmud said that the government has taken several steps to promote films in Bangladesh. He said that the government will take steps to reopen the closed cinema halls in the country and to technologically upgrade the cinema halls already running. 
State Minister for Foreign Affairs and Chief Patron of the Dhaka International Film Festival expressed happiness at the successful organising of the festival.
-Nineteenth meeting of the Joint Steering Committee on India Bangladesh cooperation in the energy sector was held in Dhaka yesterday. The steering committee took stock of the progress of implementation of the decisions taken during the last meeting of the Joint Working Group (JWG) and Joint Steering Committee (JSC).According to the press release issued by the High Commission of India in Dhaka, the meeting also discussed the status of 1320 MW Maitree Super Thermal Power Project at Rampal. Detailed discussions were held on power trade between India and Bangladesh through various interconnections. The meeting discussed ways for further enhancing the cooperation in the energy sector. India and Bangladesh have set up the institutional mechanism of JSC and JWG for reviewing and enhancing bilateral cooperation in the power sector between the two countries. The last meetings were held in March 2020 in Udaipur in India. Indian delegation was led by the Power Secretary Sanjiv Nandan Sahai while Power Secretary Md. Habibur Rahman represented the Bangladesh side at the meeting.
