PM says farm laws optional, not compulsory, Congress walks out

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said tha 'farm laws are optional, not compulsory.' An alternative system has been presented. Farmers can go wherever they get more profit.Modi on Wednesday replied to the motion of thanks on President's address in the Lok Sabha, there is no restriction on old mandis. Allocations have been made to modernise existing mandis. This is the first time that people say they were never asking for the laws, PM Modi said. Citing the dowry law, triple talaq, laws against child marriage, the PM said no one asked for these laws but they were brought in for the betterment of society," the Prime Minister said.
Hitting out at the Congress, PM Modi said the Opposition should have debated on the intent of the farm laws and not their colour. The Congress today is a confused and divided party. It has reduced itself to this.Such a confused party cannot help the country or anyone. With the PM delivering his speech, Opposition MPs started raising slogans against the farm laws. "Congress party is so divided that its Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs take different lines on issues," the PM said. The Congress then decided to stage a walkout from the Lok Sabha.

"As far as the agitation is concerned, they are victims of rumours that were spread," the PM said."This house and this government respects the spirit of protesting farmers and this is why senior ministers have been talking to them respectfully since the agitation was in Punjab," the PM said. After the Laws relating to agriculture were passed by Parliament - no Mandi has shut. Likewise, MSP has remained. Procurement on MSP has remained. These facts can't be ignored,he said.
Modi said that India has to become a world leader in the post-Covid world."New world order is emerging in post-Covid world. We have to decide if we have to be spectators, or emerge as world leader. India has to be self-reliant, empowered and capable if it has to emerge as a leader in the world," PM Modi said."I consider the Kisan Andolan to be Pavitra. But, when Andolanjeevis hijack Pavitra Andolans, showcase photos of those jailed for serious offences, does it serve any purpose? Not allowing toll plazas to work, destroying telecom towers- does it serve a Pavitra Andolan: PM Modi said.
