President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday lauded women's strength and achievements, and exhorted them to realise their full potential, saying, "We are no lesser beings." Addressing an event organised here by the Ministry of Women and Child Development to mark the International Women's Day in New Delhi, the president said the occasion was not only to honour women's achievements but also to reaffirm the nation's commitment to their empowerment. Murmu highlighted women's pioneering roles in education, administration, judiciary, armed forces, medicine, science, technology, arts, entrepreneurship and sports.

Speaking on the occasion, Women and Child Development Annpurna Devi said that the Centre is working with a whole of government approach to empower the lives of women. She noted that International Women’s Day celebrates the determination, dedication, and achievements of women, which form the foundation of a developed India. The Minister said that when a woman receives opportunity, she reaches great heights and paves the way for progress across the entire society. She said that Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme has changed the lives of women. She said, it is a matter of pride that women are taking the lead in making the nation Viksit Bharat.
