Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday held a high-level meeting with former ISRO chairman K Radhakrishnan to review preparedness for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination scheduled to be conducted on June 21 across the country.According to agency reports, the meeting focused on strengthening examination security, surveillance mechanisms, and coordination measures ahead of the nationwide medical entrance re-exam, which is expected to be held at more than 5,400 centres across 550 cities.Radhakrishnan currently heads the high-powered steering committee constituted to oversee implementation of reforms and recommendations related to the National Testing Agency (NTA).

The review meeting was attended by Higher Education Secretary Vineet Joshi, NTA Director General Abhishek Singh, senior NTA officials, and representatives from the Ministry of Education.During the discussions, Pradhan and Radhakrishnan assessed the readiness of examination centres and reviewed measures aimed at ensuring a fair, transparent, and smooth conduct of the examination for over 23 lakh medical aspirants.
The Education Minister has also written to all Chief Ministers, Lieutenant Governors, and Administrators, seeking active support from state governments and Union Territory administrations for the successful conduct of the re-examination.The Ministry of Education confirmed the development through its official social media handle, underlining the Centre’s focus on ensuring robust arrangements and restoring confidence in the examination process.Pradhan also expressed concern over the severe heatwave conditions prevailing in several parts of the country and urged authorities to ensure availability of essential facilities for candidates at examination centres.He called on states and UTs to make adequate arrangements for drinking water, electricity, medical assistance, shaded waiting areas, and other basic amenities, as temperatures in many regions continue to hover between 40 and 45 degrees Celsius.The June 21 re-exam is being closely monitored by the Centre amid heightened scrutiny over examination management and security protocols.
