In India, six states have recorded an upsurge in active cases of Covid. These states are Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat. Union Health Ministry said, Maharashtra continues to report the highest daily new cases at eight thousand 333. It is followed by Kerala with three thousand 671 while Punjab reported 622 new cases. The Ministry said, only six states and UTs account for 82.3 per cent of the new deaths. Maharashtra saw the maximum casualties of 48. Punjab follows with 15 and Kerala reported 14 deaths in the last 24 hours. A total of 16 thousand 488 new cases were reported in the country in the past 24 hours taking the cumulative positive cases to over one crore ten lakh.
Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla has asked States and Union Territories to maintain caution and strict surveillance to fully overcome the covid pandemic. Bhalla has written a letter to all the states and UTs after extending COVID19 guidelines till 31st March.He said the number of active and new cases in the country has substantially declined over the last few months but there is a need to maintain caution and strict surveillance.The states and UTs have also been asked that Containment Zones continue to be demarcated carefully, prescribed containment measures strictly followed within these zones and COVID-appropriate behaviour promoted and strictly enforced.
Meanwhile, more than one crore 42 lakh COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered to beneficiaries in the country so far. A total of seven lakh 69 thousand doses of vaccine were given to health care and frontline workers in the last 24 hours. The country's COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 97.14 per cent with recovery of more than 12 thousand patients within 24 hours. The Ministry said, more than one crore seven lakh patients have already recovered from this disease.Presently, the total number of active cases in the country is one lakh 59 thousand 590 which comprises only 1.44 per cent of the total positive cases. The Indian Council of Medical Research said that various laboratories conducted more than seven lakh 73 thousand tests of Coronavirus samples during the last 24 hours and more than 21 crore 54 lakh tests have been done in the country so far.
