A Lucknow Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh Police to register a First Information Report (FIR) against Senior Advocate and Congress leader Salman Khurshid for his comments on Hindutva in his book 'Sunrise Over Ayodhya: Nationhood In Our Times'. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Shantanu Tyagi also directed the Uttar Pradesh Police to send a copy of the FIR to the Court within three days. The Lucknow Court was dealing with a complaint that alleged before the Court that certain portions of Khurshid's book hurt the religious feelings of Hindus as it compared Hindutva or Hinduism to ISIS and Boko Haram.
In its order, the magistrate said, “From a perusal of the application and the arguments raised in its support, I am of the opinion that cognisable offences are made out against Salman Khurshid.”The Court directed the authorities that relevant provisions should be charged and a proper investigation should be carried out in the matter. Earlier, a plea was moved before the Delhi High Court to ban Khurshid's book, but the same was rejected on November 25.
