The Centre has approved the procurement of significant quantities of pulses and oilseeds under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) across four states, a move aimed at ensuring farmers receive the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their produce and are protected from unfavourable market conditions.Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday cleared the procurement proposals through video conferencing, covering Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Haryana. Uttar Pradesh emerged as the largest beneficiary of the initiative.

According to agency reports, for the Summer 2026 season, Uttar Pradesh has been granted approval to procure 48,298 metric tonnes (MT) of moong, 97,970 MT of urad and 41,718 MT of groundnut. The total value of the procurement at MSP exceeds Rs1,490 crore, providing substantial support to pulse and oilseed growers in the state.Gujarat has received approval for the procurement of 18,250 MT of moong during the Summer 2026 season. The procurement is valued at more than Rs160 crore at MSP and is expected to help farmers secure better returns for their produce.In Tamil Nadu, the Centre has enhanced the moong procurement target for the Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2025-26 from 885 MT to 990 MT, allowing for an additional procurement of 105 MT. The approved quantity carries an MSP value of Rs8.68 crore.Haryana has been permitted to procure 2,115 MT of moong for the Summer 2026 season. The procurement, valued at over Rs18 crore at MSP, is aimed at extending price support to farmers cultivating the crop in the state.
The approvals form part of the government's broader strategy to strengthen MSP operations, ensure fair remuneration for farmers and encourage the cultivation of pulses and oilseeds. The procurement drive is expected to shield growers from distress sales and market volatility while supporting domestic production of key agricultural commodities.
