Former MP from Sangrur Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday sworn in as Chief Minister of Punjab. He was administered the oath by Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit at Khatarkalan, ancestral village of Martyr Bhagat Singh in SBS Nagar (Nawanshehr) district. The National Convener of Aam Aadmi Party Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Punjab Incharge of Party Affairs Raghav Chadha and other leaders of the party along with general public from all over the state joined the swearing-in ceremony. Addressing the gethering, Mann said he would not ridicule or provoke his political opponents and “I will not indulge in petty politics.”
Mann said that Bhagat Singh was worried about India after Independence. “We will stay here and ensure the progress of our land. From unemployment to farming — we shall fix everything and find solutions to the smallest of problems. We will build schools and hospitals in Punjab. All we need is your blessing,” Mann said. Mann said a golden chapter has started in the history of the state and that it would be "badhta (progressive) Punjab, rather than Udta Punjab",
