In Punjab, at least nine people were killed and 20 others injured when a vehicle carrying members of a family collided with a truck on the Ferozepur-Fazilka road on Saturday morning. The victims, all members of the same family, were on their way to Beas to immerse the ashes of a deceased relative in the Beas River when the accident occurred. Many people reportedly died on the spot, while the injured were rushed to Ferozepur Civil Hospital and Faridkot Medical College for treatment. The family left Jalalabad around 4 am. As their vehicle reached Janga Wala Mod near Husain Shah village at about 5 am, it collided head-on with a trolley traveller coming from the opposite direction.

Senior police officials reached the accident site soon after the incident and launched rescue operations with the help of local residents. The injured were evacuated and admitted to nearby hospitals.Anshpreet Singh (12), who survived the accident with minor injuries, said that he was going with his family members to immerse the remains of his grandmother, Pooro Bai (62).The deceased were identified as Karnail Singh, Lakshmi Rani, Sukhwinder Kaur, Bhago Rani, Maya Bai, Surinder Singh, Raj Kumar, Darshan Singh and Vidya Rani.
