Guide, a highly successful film at the box-office

Dev Anand had invested every penny he had at that time in the making of the film Guide. Yet initially he couldn't find any distributor for this movie, because the English version was flopped in the USA.

The film was based on RK Narayan's novel The Guide. 
Guide was a highly successful film at the box-office upon release.
It has since been deemed one of the best Bollywood films produced of all time.
The film received widespread critical acclaim, particularly for the performance of Dev, Waheeda as well as the score by SD Burman.
Guide received a leading 9 nominations at the 14th Filmfare awards.
'Time' magazine listed it at #4 on its list of Best Bollywood classics.
In an interview in 2014 Waheeda Rehman said her real life is closest to the character of Rosie in this movie.
