Google on Wednesday said it was committed to its users and developers and that the firm's model had "powered India's digital transformation and expanded access for hundreds of millions of Indians. The CCI on Tuesday fined Google Rs 936.44 crore for second time in a week for misusing its dominant position about Play Store policy and ordered the tech giant to stop engaging in unfair commercial practises.
In response, a Google spokesperson said,we remain committed to our users and developers and are reviewing the decision to evaluate the next steps. Google's spokesperson added, "Indian developers have benefited from tech, security, consumer protections & unrivalled choice and flexibility that Android & Google Play provide. By keeping costs low, our model powered India's digital transformation and expanded access for hundreds of millions of Indians." Google had earlier said the Indian antitrust watchdog's decision to fine the company for alleged anti-competitive practices was "a major setback for Indian consumers and businesses" and that it would review the decision to evaluate next steps.
