West Asia crisis fuels surge in LPG prices,3rd straight monthly hike

The price of commercial LPG cylinders was sharply increased by Rs993 per 19-kg unit on Friday, marking the third consecutive monthly hike amid escalating tensions in West Asia and a surge in global energy prices. With the latest revision, a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder now costs a record Rs3,071.50 in Delhi, up from Rs2,078.50. The steep rise is expected to impact hotels, restaurants, and other commercial establishments that rely heavily on bulk cooking gas.

The latest increase follows earlier hikes of Rs195.50 per cylinder on April 1 and Rs114.50 on March 1, taking the cumulative rise to Rs1,303 over the past three months. On the other hand, domestic LPG prices remain unchanged. The last revision for household cooking gas came on March 7, when rates were raised by Rs60 per 14.2-kg cylinder, bringing the price in Delhi to Rs913.State-run oil marketing companies — Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum — revise LPG and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices on the first day of every month, based on international benchmarks and currency fluctuations, according to information.
Global crude oil prices have surged nearly 50 per cent in recent weeks as the ongoing conflict in West Asia disrupted supply chains, triggering volatility in energy markets and raising input costs for fuel distributors. The continued rise in commercial LPG prices is likely to add to operational costs for businesses and could translate into higher prices for consumers in the hospitality sector.
