Early morning rain in many parts of the national capital on Friday lowered temperatures across the city. Several localities witnessed light to moderate rainfall. The weather office said cloudy conditions are likely to prevail through the day. The India Meteorological Department has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by rain over Delhi and adjoining regions for the day due to an ongoing western disturbance.The impact of a western disturbance over northwest India continued on Friday, bringing rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds to several regions. The weather system is expected to persist through the day.The weather department added that a yellow alert is also in place for the day, with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds expected across different time slots.
The IMD nowcast warnings issued around 9:15am is active for the next three hours for Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh and north Rajasthan, where similar weather conditions are likely to prevail.

Meanwhile, in Jammu and Kashmir, the famous ski resort of Gulmarg and a few other areas in the Kashmir Valley received fresh snowfall, with high-speed winds sweeping Srinagar and other plains.Fresh snowfall started in Gulmarg in north Kashmir's Baramulla district and in Sonmarg in late Thursday evening, the officials said, as a strong western disturbance made an impact in Jammu and Kashmir. Due to ongoing snowfall, Srinagar Airport has said that it may take longer than expected for flight operations to return to normal.

Rain lashed parts of Jammu city on Thursday morning, intensifying the chill as cold wave conditions continued to prevail across the region. The weather department has forecast rain and snowfall across Uttarakhand after a prolonged dry spell, issuing an orange alert for several districts. Snowfall has also intensified in parts of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
