Sidhu is now Punjab Congress chief

The cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday took the reins of Congress' Punjab unit with a swift flick of his wrist, indicating hitting a six like the ace cricketer that he was,as the party president in the presence of chief minister Amarinder Singh. The new working presidents of the Punjab Congress -- Sangat Singh Gilzian, Sukhwinder Singh Danny, Pawan Goel, and Kuljit Singh Nagra -- also assumed charge at the event at the party's state headquarters Chandigarh in the presence of a huge number of Congress workers and supporters.

In his address, Sidhu said, "All Congress workers in Punjab have become the party's state unit chief today. There is no difference between a leader and a worker." Referring to the state's many problems, Sidhu said, "Who is accountable for deaths of those who died due to drug overdose? Who made the youth of Punjab dependant on drugs? I will hold all of them accountable... Why should we buy electricity at Rs 18 per unit? Why should those who looted Punjab not be held accountable?" "We need to resolve all these issues, We have to do the politics of change," he said.
