The Internation Yoga Day is being celebrated. Various Yoga progarammes have been organised world wide on Monday(June21). This is the second consecutive year that the celebrations are being held digitally due to Covid-19. Addressing the 7th International Yoga Day programme, prime minister Narendra Modi has said Yoga had become a ray of hope at a time when the entire world was battling the Covid-19 pandemic, which has led to more than 4 million deaths and infected 178 million people. For two years now, no public event has been organised in India or the world, but enthusiasm for Yoga has not gone down.Yoga often gives us a way of holistic health, he said, adding that several studies are taking place around the world on the benefits of yoga on our body and immunity.
"The ‘Yoga For Wellness’ theme on this International Yoga Day has encouraged people even more to perform yoga. I pray that every country, region, and people stay healthy," he added. The Prime Minister further said that even the medical science lays emphasis on the healing process, besides medical treatment, and yoga can help in it. "Yoga shows us the road from stress to strength and from negativity to creativity," the Prime Minister further said. He also announced the launch of a M-Yoga app, which will have videos on yoga training based on common yoga protocol.

Yoga Day was celebrated at the iconic Times Square in New York on Sunday. The day-long yoga festival with the theme of 'Solstice in Times Square 2021' was attended by more than 3,000 people where yogis, with their yoga mats and flexible bodies, filled Times Square to mark the start of summer.Consulate General of India, New York partnered with the Times Square Alliance to host the Yoga celebrations.
