US has praised India for effectively countering terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and northeast and Maoists in the central parts of the country in 2020. While US appreciated Indian states for creating anti-terrorism units to deal with the menace, it has accused Pakistan of not taking action against terrorists such as JeM founder and UN-designated terrorist Masood Azhar and Key accused of 2008 Mumbai attack Sajid Mir. US department of State in its 'Country Reports on Terrorism 2020’, the US said, terrorist groups continued to operate from Pakistan.The USA praised Indian states for creating anti-terrorism units and informed that the Indian Multi-Agency Centre collaborates with the USA on exchanging terrorist screening information.
The report said, several UN and US-designated terrorist groups that focus on attacks outside the country continued to operate from Pakistani soil in 2020, including the Haqqani Network, LeT, and JeM. The US accused the Imran Khan government and Pakistani military of acting inconsistently with respect to terrorist safe havens throughout the country. US said, authorities did not take sufficient action to dismantle certain terrorist groups.The US Department of State in its report further stated that though ISIS lost its territory in Syria, new branches that surfaced in 2019 in Pakistan and India continued to operate. Though al-Qa’ida has weakened, its regional affiliate in the Indian subcontinent (AQIS) continued to operate from remote locations that have served as safe havens, it said.
