Twitter has officially started charging money for SMS two-factor authentication, a critical security measure that was previously available for free. Additionally, the company has announced that it would be a part of Twitter Blue and the non-subscribers will have to pay for it. Two-Factor Authentication is an important security measure that allows users to provide two forms of identification to access their account. This process requires a password and a one-time password which is directly sent via SMS to the user’s phone in order to log in. Tcompany was earlier providing the feature for free but from today, the feature will be limited to the Blue subscribers. However, it is not mandatory to have a two-factor authentication but it is advisable for every user to enable the setting for the privacy and security of the accounts.
Twitter has announced that it will no longer allow accounts to enrol in the text message/SMS method of 2FA unless they are Twitter Blue subscribers. The new rule is effective from Monday,March 20. Twitter Blue costs Rs6,800 ( Rs 566.67 per month) for the yearly plan and Rs650 per month ( Rs7,800 per year) for the monthly plan. It adds a blue checkmark to the account of anyone willing to pay for one. Among other features, Twitter Blue allows users to edit tweets, upload 1080p videos, and post longer videos. If you don't want to pay for Twitter Blue, or are afraid of losing your account, it's pretty easy to switch from text/SMS 2FA.
