BJP gets big chunk in Tripura local bodies election. The BJP has swept the civic polls in Tripura -- held amid bitter feud with the Trinamool Congress --- bagging 217 of 222 seats. The CPM has won three seats, the Trinamool and TIPRA Motha one seat each. The Agartala Municipal Corporation has become opponent less, with all 51 wards going to the BJP.. A total of 334 seats, including Agartala Municipal Corporation (51 wards), 13 municipal councils and six Nagar panchayats, are up for grabs. The ruling BJP won 112 seats spread across 20 urban bodies ( ULBs) uncontested. No other parties had filed candidates in seven ULBs.
Elections were held in the remaining 222 seats spread across 13 ULBs, including the AMC, on November 24 in which as many as 785 contestants are in the fray. In Tripura, counting of votes for Kailashahar & Kumarghat Municipal Councils under Unakoti District is over. In Kailashahar Municipal Council Election, out of total 17 seats, BJP has won 16 seats and C.P.I(M) 1. In Kumarghat Municipal Council, BJP has won all 15 seats. This is the first civic election that the BJP contested after coming to power in Tripura in 2018. The contest was mainly between the BJP,Trinamool Congress and the CPM.
