The ruling BJP swept the local body elections across Gujarat, winning all 15 municipal corporations, which include Ahmedabad and Rajkot. The elections covered 15 municipal corporations, 84 municipalities, 34 district panchayats, and 260 taluka panchayats.The BJP has secured a comfortable win in the Rajkot Municipal Corporation elections, winning 65 out of 72 seats. Congress, on the other hand, won just 7 seats, while AAP and other parties failed to open their account. The BJP has won a landslide victory in the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, winning 160 out of 192 seats. Congress has won 32 seats. The most striking reversal of fortune occurred in Surat; the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which had sent shockwaves through the state in the previous election by winning 27 seats, saw its influence decimated, managing to secure only four seats this time.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the Gujarat civil poll results, which gave a massive victory to the BJP, saying the relationship between Gujarat and the saffron party has now become even “deeper and unbreakable.” Taking to X, the primce minister wrote: “I express my heartfelt gratitude to the people of Gujarat for the resounding public support and mandate received by the BJP in the municipal corporation, municipality, taluka panchayat, and district panchayat elections held across the state.”
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said the BJP has scored a big victory in local body elections, with results showing the ruling party is headed for a clean sweep. “I am grateful to the people of Gujarat for again supporting PM Narendra Modi’s development-focused politics and delivering a big victory to the BJP,” Patel told a press conference.

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi described the results as the BJP’s “biggest-ever victory” in local body elections, thanking party workers and voters for the outcome. He said the results reflect the hard work of cadre on the ground, from villages to cities. Sanghavi also claimed attempts were made to influence voters by spending large sums and provoking unrest, but said such efforts failed as people backed the BJP decisively.
Polling was held on Sunday for elections to 15 municipal corporations, 84 municipalities, 34 district panchayats and 260 taluka panchayats in the state. Counting of votes began at 9 am on Tuesday, State Election Commission (SEC) officials said.
