In Uganda, 70-year-old Musa Hasahya Kasera has fathered 102 children with 12 wives. His journey into fatherhood began at a young age, and now, after years of raising a large family, he has become a grandfather to 578 grandchildren. Despite the immense joy that his large family brings, Musa’s life has not been without its struggles. As his family grew larger, Musa faced the challenge of keeping track of all his children’s names. The sheer number of offspring eventually led him to create a register, where he carefully recorded the names of his children to avoid forgetting any. With each wife, he fathered an average of eight to nine children, which resulted in a sprawling family that Musa was committed to providing for, but found increasingly difficult to support.Despite his best efforts, he struggles to provide enough food for his large family. Hunger and limited resources have been a constant challenge throughout his life.In an attempt to manage the rapid growth of his family, Musa resorted to giving contraceptive pills to his wives, hoping to control the number of children he fathered. Musa admits that he never considered how he would manage such a large family when he first began fathering children.
