Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday attack BJP over price rise, farmers' issue and crony capitalism. Addressing a rally in Jaipur, Rajasthan, he also made a frontal attack on the concept of Hindutva. "I am a Hindu. All these people are Hindus. They are Hindutva-vadis. Let me explain," he said in his opening remarks. A Hindu is interested in Satyagrah. Hinduta-vadis are only after power, they don't care about truth. A Hindutva-vadi is only after Sattagrah (search for power)", he said.
Gandhi further said that who is a Hindu? Someone who respects every religion and is scared of nobody. Those in power are 'false' Hindus... India's experiencing a 'Hindutvadi' raj, not Hindu raj. We want to remove these 'Hindutvadis' and bring in a Hindu raj," Gandhi compared ‘Hindu’ and 'Hindutvavadi' saying there is a competition between the two words, with different meanings, in Indian politics. Attacking the ruling BJP government at the Centre, Gandhi said “Hindutvavadis only want power and they are in power since 2014. We need to throw these Hindutvavadis out of power and bring back Hindus.”
At the rally, Congress leaders paid tribute to late Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat by observing silence. He, along with his wife and eleven others, lost his life in a helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu on December 8. Party chief Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also attended the rally.
