Education system rigged,152 paper leaks in 10 yrs: Rahul Gandhi

Congress leader and LoP Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said students are protesting for a legitimate reason and the government is assaulting them. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Gandhi widened the scope of his attack on the Centre, saying the education system in the country has been "rigged" under the current regime. Gandhi stated that the Congress is 100 per cent in agreement with the students and their demand for accountability from the Centre. The Congress MP said repeated paper leaks had pushed students under immense stress, with some even taking their own lives after years of preparation. Defending the protest, Gandhi said the focus should remain on students rather than his treatment by police. "The Prime Minister should have the decency to apologise to students. He is only running the system. I don't care about the way I was treated. Treat me five times worse than what I was treated, but the focus should remain on students," he said.

Earlier in the day, the BJP described Gandhi's dharna outside PM Modi's residence as "childish" and accused him of creating an "atmosphere of anarchy" despite Parliament being in session. The ruling party also held a counter-protest in various states condemning the Congress's demonstration at PM's residence in New Delhi.
