Krishna Nagar gave India it's fifth gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics on Sunday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to say "the outstanding feat" had "brought smiles on the faces of all Indians". Krishna Nagar, 22, from Jaipur, secured the gold medal after defeating Hong Kong's Chu Man Kai in a hard-fought three-game battle in the men's singles SH6 class final. India's medal tally at the Tokyo Paralympics has now reached 19. Second seeded Nagar saw off his rival from Hong Kong 21-17 16-21 21-17 in the final. A soon as the shuttler won the face-off, reactions began to pour in on social media.
President Ram Nath Kovind also congratulated Krishna Nagar. He wrote, "Historic performance by Krishna Nagar. Strong and determined, you proved your mettle by winning the gold medal in badminton at Paralympics and keeping the tricolour high. Your excellence is commendable. Many Indians will be inspired by you. Congratulations and best wishes." Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot congratulated Krishna Nagar and said, "Great news from Tokyo Paralympics that Jaipur, Rajasthan's para-badminton player Krishna Nagar has won a gold medal."
