PM Modi launches Jewar Airport, boosting Delhi-NCR connectivity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the first phase of the Noida International Airport at Jewar, marking a major milestone in strengthening aviation infrastructure and regional connectivity in north India. The project, developed at a cost of Rs11,282 crore in its initial phase, is part of a larger master plan estimated at Rs29,560 crore. The launch of the airport is expected to significantly ease air traffic congestion in the Delhi-NCR region while enhancing connectivity for western Uttar Pradesh and nearby states. The project aims to transform Jewar into a major aviation hub with both domestic and international operations.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, along with several Union and state ministers, was present at the inauguration ceremony, highlighting the importance of the project for the state’s economic and infrastructure growth.Speaking at the event, Noida International Airport CEO Christoph Schnellmann emphasized the airport’s global ambitions, stating that the facility will connect the greater Delhi region with key domestic and international destinations while blending “Swiss efficiency and Indian hospitality.”
Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu hailed the inauguration as a landmark achievement for the country’s aviation sector.“I heartily congratulate all of you on the inauguration of the magnificent and prestigious Jewar Airport by our PM Narendra Modi. Not only Jewar, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi NCR, but all of India is excited about this achievement. Because Delhi, the capital, the heartbeat of the country, has today found a second heartbeat,” he said.

He further highlighted the scale and capabilities of the project, noting that the airport, spread over more than 3,000 acres and built at a cost of around Rs11,200 crore, features a 4-km-long runway capable of handling international air traffic.“The most important aspect of the Jewar Terminal is that when you come here, you will experience the pride and identity of Uttar Pradesh. This is our Prime Minister's vision — the idea of both development and heritage,” Naidu added. The Noida International Airport is expected to emerge as a key driver of economic growth, boosting tourism, trade, and employment opportunities across the region, while reinforcing India’s position as a rapidly expanding aviation market.
