A Keralam doctor cracked the civil service examination with 483rd rank after a near-fatal accident had crippled her. Thirty-year-old Dr Athira Suguthan, from Kozhikode, who has been confined to a wheelchair since a road accident 10 years ago, secured 483rd rank in the civil services exam, demonstrating how true grit and determination can surpass any disability. Athira said on Saturday that she suffered injuries to her head and spine in the road accident when she was studying BDS in Bengaluru and as a result, lost her memory for two years. "Doctors initially were of the view that I would be bedridden for life. But, after a finger movement, things changed," she said.
Undeterred by three consecutive failures, Athira achieved her goal in the fourth attempt after four years of hard work. She chose Malayalam as an optional and faced the interview in Malayalam. She found time for her studies by sleeping only four hours a day. Athira says that the secret to her success is concentrated study and uncompromising effort. She is a BDS graduate. Athira's big message for prospective candidates is to not get discouraged by failures and fight until they achieve their goals.…
