The Opposition on Tuesday staged a walkout from the Lok Sabha protesting various issues, including violence in the Sambhal district in UP and alleged bribery charges against a prominent business group. When the House met in the morning, Opposition members tried to raise the issues but were not allowed. As soon as the House assembled to take up the Question Hour, Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav stood up and raised the issue, seeking Speaker Om Birla’s permission to speak on the subject.“This is a very serious matter. Five people have lost their lives,” Yadav said.
Speaker Om Birla asked them to raise their issues during the Zero Hour. Members from Congress, Samajwadi Party, DMK, and others created a noisy scene. While the SP members were protesting in the Well of the House, DMK member A Raja was seen exhorting other opposition members, including those from the Congress, to rise from their seats and join the SP protest.Later, the protesting members staged a walkout from the House. In the Rajya Sabha, Samajwadi Party MP Prof. Ramgopal Yadav raised the issue of violence in Sambhal. Later, the Samajwadi Party and TMC staged a walkout from the House. At the end of the Question Hour, some opposition members staged a walkout again over Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s reply on minimum support price (MSP) in response to a question on the PM-Kisan scheme.
