The Supreme Court on Monday remarked that interim appointments of the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) cannot go on. A bench comprising of Justices L Nageswara Rao and Vineet Saran was hearing a petition filed by NGO Common Cause seeking the appointment of a regular director. Attorney General (AG) KK Venugopal said that the senior-most person was appointed as CBI interim director.The AG further informed that the meeting of the High Powered Committee comprising of Prime Minister, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the Leader of Opposition has been deferred to May 2nd in view of the ongoing elections and also the impending retirement of the incumbent CJI SA Bobde on April 23.
-BJP has attacked the Maharashtra Chief Minister following the resignation of State Home Minister Anil Deshmukh saying Uddhav Thackeray has lost the moral authority to govern. Deshmukh has resigned from his post after the Bombay High Court ordered a CBI probe into former Mumbai Police Chief's allegations against him. Briefing the media in New Delhi o Monday, senior BJP leader and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad questioned Thackeray's silence in the matter. He said there may be a lot of linkages in this corruption case and all the ramifications of this issue should be investigated fairly and those involved must be brought to book. He also raised suspended police officer Sachin Waze's case and said NIA is making revelations everyday in the case. Targeting Shiv Sena, the BJP leader alleged that Waze's link points to a conspiracy of corruption. Sachin Waze is currently in NIA custody for his alleged role in planting an explosives-laden vehicle near industrialist Mukesh Ambani's house in Mumbai.
-The Delhi government has increased the operational time of COVID-19 vaccination centres in the city from Tuesday. One-third of these centres in the national capital will be operational round the clock. Earlier, all vaccination centres in the city used to work from 9 am to 9 pm. Now, one-third of them will remain open from 9 pm to 9 am. Delhi Health Department has issued an order in this regard saying the decision has been taken to accelerate the pace of COVID vaccination.
-Indian Navy Ships INS Satpura (with an integral helicopter embarked) and INS Kiltan along with P8I Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft are participating, for the first time; in multi-lateral maritime exercise La Pérouse, being conducted in the Eastern Indian Ocean Region from 05 to 07 Apr 2021. The Indian Navy ships and aircraft will exercise at sea with ships and aircraft of French Navy (FN), Royal Australian Navy (RAN), Japan Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) and United States Navy (USN) during the three-day exercise at sea. The exercise La Pérouse, led by French Navy, has participation by FN Ships Tonnerre, an amphibious assault ship and frigate Surcouf. United States Navy is represented in the exercise by amphibious transport dock ship Somerset. Her Majesty’s Australian Ships (HMAS) Anzac, a frigate and tanker Sirius have been deployed by RAN for participation in the exercise while Japan Maritime Self Defence Ship (JMSDF) is represented by the destroyer Akebono. In addition to the ships, integral helicopters embarked onboard ships will also participate in the exercise.
-Maharashtra Government clarified that only permission for holding cricket matches is given for Indian Premier League (IPL). Viewers are not allowed in the stadium then can watch matches on relay. State Minority Development Minister Nawab Malik Said that all the participants of IPL will have to isolate themselves at one place.The BCCI has demanded that all players should be vaccinated, but as per ICMR guidelines, only persons above 45 can be vaccinated. He added that, As soon as we get permission, more people will be vaccinated.
