While paintings may often be the center of attention, the sculptures found within NGMA's halls deserve equal appreciation. From classical to contemporary, these sculptures are a testament to the creativity, ingenuity, and craftsmanship of the artists who created them.
This feature article dives into the compelling stories behind some of the most important sculptures housed in this prestigious gallery. Some of the sculptures present in NGMA are :

One of the most iconic sculptures housed in NGMA is the majestic "Dancing Shiva." The intricate details and fluid movement evoke a profound sense of spirituality and transcendence.

2. The sculpture " Triumph of Labour"was created by D.P. Roy Chowdhury and is located at the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) in New Delhi, India. The sculpture is inspired by the idea of celebrating the hard work and perseverance of the labor class, particularly the industrial workers. It depicts a group of workers, both men and women, engaged in various forms of labor. The figures are shown in dynamic poses, suggesting movement and energy, and convey a sense of pride and determination.

3. "Twenty-foot-high bodhi tree" is displayed on the lawns of Delhi's National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA). This is no ordinary bodhi tree. Made of shiny stainless steel ,its foliage is fashioned like so many household utensils-thaalis, pateelas, baltis. He wanted this sculpture to be a place where families gather and get photographed.

4. Sculpture of Rabindranath Tagore by Ramkinkar Baij :
Ram Kinkar gives us a magnificently unromantic portrayal, the penetrating eyes looking downward, the lofty brow balanced in a frown and the head stooped. It offers us a vivid panorama of a cultural age and an insight of Ram Kinkar’s formal strengths. Ram Kinkar's accentuating individual features gives life and movement to his sculptures.
Abstract Explorations:
Amidst the traditional and mythological sculptures, NGMA also showcases a diverse range of abstract sculptures that challenge preconceived notions of form and representation. These sculptures, born out of the revolutionary spirit of modern and contemporary art movements, explore the inherent power of abstract shapes, textures, and materials. Adorning the NGMA's halls with their boldness and innovative concepts, these sculptures invite viewers to interpret and engage with art on a deeply personal level, transcending traditional boundaries.
The National Gallery of Modern Art is a treasure trove where sculptures come to life and narrate tales of history, spirituality, and human emotions. Through their artistic brilliance, these sculptures embody the essence of human creativity and offer timeless inspiration. As visitors traverse the galleries within NGMA, they discover the stories embedded within stone, metal, and memory, reminding us that art has the power to transcend boundaries, making us reflect, think, and ultimately, connect with the soul of humanity.
