A Naxalite was killed during an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Wednesday, police said.According to Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P, the gunfight broke out in a forested area in the western part of Bijapur when a joint team of security personnel was carrying out an anti-Naxal operation.
“An exchange of fire took place and so far the body of a Naxalite along with a weapon has been recovered from the site,” Sundarraj said, adding that the operation was still in progress and further details would be shared once it concludes.With the latest incident, security forces have eliminated 227 Naxalites this year in various encounters across Chhattisgarh, the majority of them in the insurgency-hit Bastar division.
