Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the extended service of Kolkata Metro Rail between Noapara and Dakshineshwar, on Monday. The 4.1-kilometre long stretch of Metro Rail has been constructed at a cost of Rs 464 crore. The much-awaited extension linked the two world-famous Kali temples at Kalighat and Dakshineswar.The Prime Minister also inaugurated and dedicated to the nation new lines of Eastern and South Eastern Railways. Modi said, the common people including students will be benefited from the extension of Metro.Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal were also present in the programme. Earlier, the Railway Minister also visited Dakshineswar Metro Station and paid a visit to Kalighat temple also.
-Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has said that the National Democratic Alliance Government gives priority to skill development and has brought several initiatives like 'Pradhan Mantri Gramin Kaushal Vikas Yojana'.Addressing the inaugural function of DRDO Skill Development Centre at Pilkhuwa in Uttar Pradesh on Monday , Singh said, the nations who mastered skills have moved ahead. He added that 'Start-up India' and the new National Education Policy are steps which will ensure the promotion of the skills of youth either directly or indirectly.
-Education Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has asked IITs to modify Institute Development Plan as envisioned in New Education Policy to improve the mobility of faculty between institution and industry. He said, the mobility of faculty members and industry experts between technical institutes and industry will promote collaborations between industry and academia. Chairing the meeting of the Council of Indian Institutes of Technology on Monday through online, the Minister urged tne IITs to adopt 'One IIT - One Thrust Area' based on local approach .He congratulated Heads of all IITs and Chairpersons for successfully continuing the academics during the challenging times of COVID-19 and for their remarkable contribution in combating the pandemic by way of new scientific research.
-In Boxing, Arundhati Choudhary in 69 kilogram category and Naorem Babyrojisana Chanu 51 kilogram category won gold medals as India’s women contingent ended the 30th Adriatic Pearl tournament in Budva, Montenegro, with five gold, three silver and two bronze medals in addition to three male boxers winning bronze.India’s women’s contingent thus finished top of the podium at the tournament and took home the trophy.
-The first-ever National Toy Fair will be organized from 27th February to 2nd March through a virtual medium. IIT Gandhinagar based Centre for Creative Learning (CCL) will showcase its unique 75 toy creations in the fair. IIT Gandhinagar is the only IIT in the country which is running such a centre for creative learning. The centre is inculcating scientific temperament among students and teachers by developing a range of scientific and educational toys. Founder of CCL, Manish Jain said education is supposed to ignite the brains of the children and for this to happen, it is important the children find education interesting. Jain welcome the initiative of the Toy fair and expressed hope that it will help in changing the attitude of parents as well as teachers towards toys.
