The nation pays homage to the unifier of Modern India, Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 146th birth anniversary on Sunday, October 31.The day is also celebrated as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas. President Ram Nath Kovind paid floral tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at his statue at Patel Chowk in the National Capital. In his tribut, prime minister Narendra Modi said that India today is fully capable to meet all kinds of challenges, external and internal, due to his inspiration..“Our goals can only be met if we stay united. Sardar Patel always wanted India to be strong, inclusive, sensitive, alert, polite and developed. He always gave importance to the nation's interest,” the Prime Minister added.

Union home minister Amit Shah also paid floral tribute at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat’s Kevadia on the occasion of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's birth anniversary. Patel’s dedication, loyalty, struggle and sacrifice serve as an inspiration to citizens for unity and integrity of the country, Amit Shah said. In Gujarat, the main function was held at the Statue of Unity in Kevadia. 6 platoons of BSF, CISF, ITBP, CRPF and Gujarat police participated in Ekta Parade. Minister Shah addressed the function at Kevadia.
