Addressing a gathering, Shah said development works worth nearly Rs 1,200 crore had been inaugurated or launched across two Assembly constituencies in Gandhinagar district over the past 10 days. He expressed confidence that by the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, every village in the district would have a library, garden, pond and recreational facilities."Sports, libraries and gardens are essential for developing a well-rounded personality," Shah said, adding that efforts were being made to build clean villages, rejuvenate ponds, create green spaces and promote large-scale tree plantation. He said rural libraries were being established to encourage reading habits among young people and would be integrated into a wider library network in Gandhinagar. He added that the development model initiated in Gujarat under Modi's leadership as chief minister has now gained acceptance across the country."The Gujarat development model has expanded from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Somnath to Gangasagar," Shah said, noting that the BJP-led governments currently govern nearly 80 per cent of India's geographical area.
The Home Minister also touched upon national security issues, reiterating the government's commitment to identifying and deporting illegal infiltrators. Referring to developments along the Bangladesh border, he said fencing and anti-infiltration infrastructure remained a priority and claimed that infiltration had declined significantly compared to previous years.Shah said the Centre had decided to establish a high-level commission to study artificial demographic changes in the country. The proposed body will examine the causes and implications of demographic shifts and recommend measures, including legislative changes if necessary. The commission is expected to submit its report within a year.Paying tribute to Vinayak Damodar Savarkar on his birth anniversary, Shah described him as a patriot who not only played a significant role in India's freedom movement but also worked towards social reforms, including the eradication of untouchability and the establishment of the Patit Pavan Mandir for Dalits.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said the state government was working under Shah's guidance to make Gandhinagar the country's most developed parliamentary constituency. He announced a target of planting one crore trees across the constituency as part of efforts to create a "Green Lok Sabha Constituency."Patel also said libraries would be established in 20 villages with support from Toyota Kirloskar Motor, district authorities, CSR funds and donors.
