Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin on Saturday called on Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at Parliament House. During the meeting, both the leaders recalled shared civilisational and cultural ties between the two countries and emphasized further strengthening of bilateral ties. Birla hoped that Sirojiddin’s visit would strengthen the relations between the two countries. Observing that India is committed to strengthening democracy in the world, Mr Birla called for enhanced parliamentary cooperation between India and Tajikistan through mutual visits, dialogues and sharing of best practices which will deepen the ties and strengthen democracy in the region.Referring to capacity-building measures for Members of Parliament in India, Birla mentioned that Lok Sabha has a robust training mechanism in the form of PRIDE. He urged the Tajik Foreign Minister to send Tajik parliamentarians and officials to India for capacity building.
-Nagaland Government has created three new districts namely Tseminyu, Nuiland and Chumukedima. The state has now a total of 15 districts. Tseminyu became the 13th district followed by Nuiland and Chumukedima as 14th and 15th Districts respectively. The decision was taken during a state cabinet meeting held under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Saturday at Kohima. Addressing a press conference today, MLA & Advisor for Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Women Resources Development, R Khing said, the Nagaland cabinet under Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio decided the creation of three new districts - Tseminyu, Niuland and Chümukedima as the 13th, 14th and 15th districts in the State. The Advisor who is the MLA from Tseminyu termed December 18 as a historic day for the Rengma community. He said Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio managed to convince all the cabinet to grant districts not only to Tseminyu but also Niuland and Chumukedima.On behalf of the Rengma Community. Khing expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and the Cabinet members for fulfilling their long-cherished dream.
-Supreme Court Chief Justice N.V Ramana and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao have inaugurated the International Arbitration and Mediation Centre (IAMC) near Hyderabad on Saturday. After the opening ceremony, Chief Minister and CJI inspected the arrangements and infrastructure at the centre. The government has allocated lands to the centre which is being operated in a temporary building. The IAMC was opened to resolve the problems quickly that arose due to the lack of sufficient judges. CJI has said that IAMC will not confine itself in settling commercial disputes but also look into the disputes of ordinary people. Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao expressed hope that IAMC will bring name and fame to the country and Telangana state in particular.
-In Jammu and Kashmir, one Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces in Srinagar early Sunday morning. The encounter broke out after security forces launched a search operation in the Harwan area. The brief shoot-out began on the outskirts of Srinagar around 4 am today. Police said, the search operation is underway in the area.
-In Himachal Pradesh, cold wave conditions are being experienced in most parts as the minimum temperature has fallen by a few degrees following snowfall in higher reaches. Intense cold is being experienced in Shimla, Solan, Lahaul Spiti, Dalhousie, Kinnaur and Chamba districts.The minimum temperature across the state is hovering around 3 to 4 degrees Celsius below normal. The minimum temperature in the state was recorded at -10.3 in Keylong. In Gujarat, several parts of the Kutch and Saurashtra region have been experiencing cold wave. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe cold wave warning for Kutch district and a cold wave warning for Rajkot, Porbandar, Amreli Jamnagar as well as for Banaskantha for three days. Naliya in Kutch was the coldest place in the state which recorded 5.4 degree celsius lowest minimum temperature last night. Similarly, Bhuj and Kandala too recorded a dip in minimum temperatures.
