A mild earthquake of magnitude 5.4 on the Richter scale hit Sikkim-Nepal border on Monday night.According to National Center for Seismology (NCS), the tremors were felt around 8.49 pm. The earthquake tremors were felt in parts of Bihar, West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. No casualty or damage due to the mild earthquake has been reported so far., Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of damage due to earthquake and have spoken to chief ministers of four affected states.

The West Bengal Governor said the epicenter of the earthquake was "25 km east-southeast (ESE) of Gangtok in Sikkim". he dialed Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, who is in Siliguri, to enquire about her well-being due to the "6.1-magnitude tremors felt in north Bengal".

The epicentre of the earthquake was 25 km east-southeast (ESE) of Gangtok, Sikkim.
