Bhai Dooj was celebrated with traditional ferver on Saturday. The festival is celebrated by Hindus on the second lunar day of Shukla Paksha. It is celebrated during the Diwali or Tihar festival and Holi festival. The celebrations of this day are similar to the festival of Raksha Bandhan. On this day, sisters give gifts to their brothers. This is also called as Bhaubeej, Bhai Tika and Bhai Phonta in different parts of the country. In the southern part of the country, the day is celebrated as Yama Dwitiya.Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has extended his greetings on Bhai Dooj. Naidu appealed to the people to resolve to empower women by upholding their dignity, ensuring their safety and providing them with equal opportunities in all fields. -The Regional Met Department has predicted a cyclonic circulation over south east Bay of Bengal is likely to become more marked and move towards North Tamil Nadu during the next 48 hours. The system is expected to bring rains for another five days in various parts of the state. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea till November13. Advisories have been issued to them to return to the shores immediately. Heavy to very heavy rainfall are likely to occur in coastal districts of the state. Orange warning has been issued indicating heavy rains on November 10 and 11in Northern districts and delta areas. Extremely heavy rains are predicted for the Coastal districts from 11th to 13th. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Saturdaybheld a meeting with Ministers and the District Collectors of the state to be prepared for the ensuing week and take every possible preventive measures for the expected challenges. He also instructed the authorities to work in a coordinated manner to avert mishaps during heavy rains causing overflow in water bodies.
-Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan on Saturday addressrd the Fifth Convocation of the Krishna University as Chancellor, in virtual mode from Raj Bhavan. Addressing the students, Governor Harichandan said that the present generation of students are fortunate that the 34-year-old education system in the country has undergone a major reform with the introduction of National Educational Policy - 2020, from elementary-level education to higher education. The Governor said that the NEP - 2020 is built on the concept of Access, Equity, Quality, Affordability and Accountability with an aim to transform India into a vibrant knowledge society and a global knowledge superpower with holistic, inclusive, flexible, and multi-disciplinary form of education suited to 21st century needs. He further added that the NEP aims at increasing the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) from 26.3 per cent to 50 per cent by 2035. National Research Foundation (NRF) to be created as an apex body for fostering a strong research culture and building research capacity across higher education and the Higher Education Commission of India (HECI) to be set up as a single overarching body for the entire higher education system in the country, will further strengthen the objectives of NEP, said Harichandan.
-The Union Government has said that nearly 116 crore 54 lakh COVID vaccine doses have been provided to States and Union Territories so far. Health Ministry today said that more than 15 crore 69 lakh unutilized vaccine doses are still available with the States and Union Territories. As part of the Nationwide Vaccination Drive, government has been supporting the States and Union Territories by providing them COVID vaccines free of cost. The Union Government is committed to accelerating the pace and expanding the scope of COVID-19 vaccination throughout the country.
-Himachal chief minister Jai Ram Thakur on Saturday pulled up state’s bureaucracy over delays in execution of projects. The government would not tolerate laxity of any kind in the execution of development projects and would not hesitate in taking stern action against the erring officials,” Jai RamThakur said while giving a clear message to bureaucracy at a meeting of administrative secretaries of HP government at Shiml The CM also directed the officers to resolve the issues of recruitment of various categories, JOA(IT), JBT, PTI, NTT which have been delayed due to one reason or another. Special focus must be laid on recruitments on compassionate grounds as this would not only benefit the family members of the deceased but also provide employment to the needy, he added.a. Jai Ram asked the officers to lay special thrust to ensure that the development projects and issues related to common people were redressed on priority.
