The domestic share market traded on a lower note on Monday,weighed down by heavy selling in private banking stocks after their June-quarter earnings amid escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.At close, the Sensex was down 442.93 points or 0.57 percent at 77,708.52, and the Nifty was down 95.80 points or 0.39 percent at 24,238.50.
Trent, Cipla, Power Grid Corporation, Bharti Airtel, JSW Steel were the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers included Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, Maruti Suzuki, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Jio Financial Services.On the sectoral front,the Nifty Private Bank and the Nifty Financial Services declined the most, while the Nifty Pharma and the Nifty PSU Bank rose the most.The broader market outperformed the benchmarks, with Nifty midcap index adding 0.6 percent and smallcap index ended marginally in the green.
Rupee Close:
On 20 July'26,the Indian rupee fell 14 paise to 96.44 (provisional) against the US dollar on Monday, on risk aversion in global markets and a surge in crude oil prices, according to agency reports.Forex traders said escalating US-Iran conflict and rising US Treasury yields weighed on the rupee.
