He called on US companies to deepen their presence in the country by partnering with domestic SMEs and investing jointly in advanced manufacturing. Such partnerships, he said, could help build resilient supply chains and create value for both economies.
The outreach comes as India and the US continue negotiations on a proposed Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA). Goyal is in the US from September 29 to October 5 to attend the G20 Trade Ministers' Meeting and hold discussions with American industry leaders and investors.Goyal had earlier said the India-US trade deal was almost "done and dusted", adding that the agreement would be implemented once Washington provides India with the right competitive advantage over its rivals in the US market.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has also said that the proposed trade agreement is at an advanced stage, while noting that changes in the US tariff landscape and the ongoing Section 301 process are factors affecting the timing of its conclusion.Section 301 of the US Trade Act of 1974 allows the US Trade Representative to investigate foreign trade practices considered unfair or burdensome to US commerce and take action in response.During his US visit, Goyal is also scheduled to meet senior executives of American companies across manufacturing, consumer goods, agri-business, retail and technology to highlight India's investment and manufacturing opportunities, according to agency reports.
