Parliament on Thursday remembered the supreme sacrifices of the brave soldiers during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war. When the House met for the day, Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu said, today is the 50th anniversary of Vijay Diwas. He said, on this day in 1971, our valiant and fearless soldiers got victory against Pakistan which led to the formation of Bangladesh as a new nation. He said, India and Bangladesh is having a friendly relation since then and India desires to further strengthen the good relation with Bangladesh. He said, the valour of the country's armed forces still inspires the people. As the Lok Sabha met for the day, Speaker Om Birla led the House in remembering the sacrifices made by armed forces. He said, courage of armed forces continues to inspire people of the country. Lok Sabha also observed silence on the demise of Group Captain Varun Singh, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a Chopper crash on 8th of this month.
-The government has lowered Goods and Services Tax rate to five per cent from 18 per cent on ethanol meant for blending under the Ethanol Blended Petrol Programme. Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameswar Teli said this in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha . He said, the decision was taken to promote ethanol blending. The procurement price of ethanol produced from sugarcane-based feed stocks like heavy molasses, sugarcane juice, sugar, sugar syrup is fixed by the Government and from food grain-based feed stocks by Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies on an annual basis. It has promoted usage of biofuel in the country by notification of the National Policy on Biofuels - 2018 which allows the use of multiple feedstocks for producing bio-ethanol for an increased supply of ethanol for blending with petrol.
-Uttar Pradesh government has hiked the honorarium of the members of three tier Panchayat system in state. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made this and many other announcements while addressing a gathering of panchayat representatives during a village panchayat conference held to honour 356 village panchayats for their excellent work. He also dedicated 42478 new panchayat bhawans that will function as village secretariats. The monthly honorarium of village pradhans has been increased from the current rupees 3,500 to rupees 5,000, of kshetra panchayat chiefs from rupees 9,800 to rupees11,300 and of zila panchayat chairpersons from rupees 14,000 to rupees 15,500. Chief Minister also announced introduction of allowance for village panchayat members for the first time, fixing it at rupees 100 per gram sabbha meeting with each village panchayat to hold 12 such meetings every year. The allowance of kshetra panchayat and zila panchayat members was increased from rupees 500 to rupees 1,000 per meeting (maximum 6 meetings a year) and from rupees1,000 to rupees 1,500 per meeting (maximum six meetings a year) respectively.
-Bihar government has given relaxation to those passengers who are coming to the state from Omicron affected states of the country. Relaxation will be given to those passengers who have taken both doses of covid vaccines. Earlier, RT-PCR test within 72 hours and Covid test were made necessary for these passengers. This guidelines will be effective from today till 5th January. Educational institutions including schools, colleges and all shops will be open as usual. Examinations will also be organised as per scheduled.
-Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad on Thursday announced dates for examinations in secondary school board i.e. 10th and the higher secondary school board i.e. 12th examinations. According to the Minister, the written examination for class XII will be held from March 4 to April 7. Practical, oral, and written examinations of class XII will be held from 14th February to 3rd March. Also, a written test for class X will be held from 15th March to 18th April. Practical, oral, and written examinations of class X will be held from 25th February to 14th March. Against the backdrop of Corona, in the academic year 2021-22, schools and junior colleges in the state have started from October 2021 with physical attendance of students.The results of Class XII examinations will be announced in the first or second week of June 2022. While, the results of Class X examinations will be announced in the first or second week of July, 2022. The Education Minister has appealed to strictly follow the guidelines during the examination period.
