Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered judicial inquiry over the incident that occurred at Sangam Ghat in Mahakumbh, Prayagraj. Talking to media, Mr Adityanath said that the three-member judicial commission will look into the entire matter and submit its report to the state government. He also announced financial assistance of 25 lakh rupees each to the families of the deceased who have lost their lives in the incident."The judicial commission will submit its report to the state government in a time-bound manner," he said. Around 30 people were killed and 60 others injured after a stampede occurred during the Maha Kumbh Mela on Wednesday, the day of Mauni Amavasya when people had gathered in large numbers to take a holy dip in the Sangam confluence.
Meanwhile, in Prayagraj, more than eight crore devotees have taken holy dip in Sangam so far on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya. Bathing continue till late evening. After the holy dip, devotees performed rituals and offered prayers at the Ghats. The security has been increased after the unfortunate incident took place at Sangam Ghat. Rapid Action Force has been deployed in the Mela area. The security forces is keeping a close eye and strict vigilance through CCTV and Drones. The Maha Kumbh Mela, commenced on 13th January and more than 26 crore devotees have taken holy dip so far.
