Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Wednesday said that 15 percent of pilots in India are women today. Speaking at an event organised by FICCI to acknowledge the contribution of women and to celebrate women’s achievements in the Indian aviation sector, the Minister said, women have made huge contributions in the aviation sector. Talking about women in civil aviation, he said that women in aviation have overcome many odds and surpassed stereotypes. He said, women in civil aviation in India have pierced every glass ceiling.

Scindia said that an environment has to be created which is not only gender neutral but which looks at an equal responsibility on men as well as women in terms of family environment. Mentioning that India needed a shift in the paradigm, Scindia said that there must come a day in India that this 15 per cent reaches 50 per cent of the country’s pilot strength. He said that airlines must consider giving male employees paternity leaves so that they can share the responsibility of bringing up a child.
