India to cut emissions by 35 per cent, says Javdekar

India is committed to reduce Carbon emmissions by 35 per cent by 2031. The country has already reduced its emissions intensity by nearly 26 per cent. According to the minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Prakash Javdekar India is one of the leading countries in renewable energy and at present the country's renewable energy capacity is 136 GigaWatt. He was addressing the Sri Ram College Commerce Business Conclave through video conference in New Delhi on Saturday. 

Javdekar has said that the government will change all normal bulbs of 40 to 60 watts with LED bulbs in a few years from now. He said, in the last six years of Narendra Modi government, two billions normal bulbs have been replaced with LED bulbs. This initiative will not only help save carbon emissions but also it will save energy. On the issue of climate change, the minister highlighted that India is not responsible for climate change as its contribution to historical carbon emission is only three per cent whereas US accounts for 30 per cent, Europe too 30 per cent and China accounts for nearly 20 per cent. He also announced a competition for college campuses to become sustainable green campuses.
