The casual approach and laxity of the people towards Covid-19 has resulted in a sudden spike of fresh cases.Health minister Dr Harshvardhan siad thin New Delhi on Friday while chairing the 24th Group of Minister meeting on COVID-19. He informed that over 15 thousand dedicated health care facilities are functional in the country and there are over 18 lakh beds for Covid patients. He said, six crore 45 lakh doses of vaccines have been exported to 84 countries by India so far. The Minister said, India is inoculating at a faster rate so far and over nine crore 43 lakh doses of vaccines have been administered. He said, in last week, over 43 lakh doses were given to various priority groups in a single day which is the highest in the world.
Meanwhile, India registered a record single-day spike of 1,31,968 new COVID-19 cases on Friday,while the death toll increased to 1,67,642 with 780 more fatalities in a day, highest since October 18, the Union Health Ministry data showed.Ten states including Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Rajasthan have shown a steep rise in daily Covid-19 cases accounting for 83.29 per cent of the new infections, the Union Health Ministry said. Five states of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Kerala cumulatively account for 73.24 per cent of India's total active cases. Maharashtra alone accounts for 53.84 per cent of the total active caseload of the country. Ten states account for 92.82 per cent of the new deaths. Maharashtra saw the maximum casualties (376). Chhattisgarh follows with 94 daily deaths, the ministry said.Twelve states and UTs have not reported any Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours. These are Rajasthan, Odisha, Puducherry, Ladakh (UT), D&D & D&N, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Mizoram, Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Arunachal Pradesh. Meanwhile India's recovery rate improve to 91.67%.

As many as 35 healthcare workers, including doctors, have tested positive for coronavirus in a week in Delhi's AIIMS hospital amid a huge surge in COVID-19 cases in the country. Some of the staff members who contracted the virus have reportedly not taken the vaccine. National Conference leader Omar Abdullah said on Friday he has tested positive for Covid-19. He is asymptotic and is self-isolating at home.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi raising concerns over the vaccination drive in India. He said, there is no clear reason as to why the government permitted large-scale exports of vaccine. While our nation is facing starvation, more than 6 crore doses of vaccine have been exported. Union Home Minister Amit Shah refuted reports of shortage of vaccine in varous states. India has surpassed the US to become the fastest vaccinating country in the world, the government said on Thursday.
