India reported 1,41,986 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, a week after the country crossed the 10,000 mark, as the virus continued to spread at an unprecedented pace, largely driven by the Omicron variant now present in 27 states. According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry,the total caseload in the country stands at 3,53,68,372. Five states account for 66.14 per cent of the new Covid-19 cases, with Maharashtra alone responsible for 28.82 per cent of the new Covid- 19 cases. In the last 24 hours, 285 Covid-related deaths were reported in the country, increasing the total reported death count to 4,83,463. Maximum casualties were reported in Kerala (189), followed by Maharashtra with 20 daily deaths. Maharashtra, one of the worst-hit states by the Covid pandemic, added 40,925 cases in 24 hours - a 13 per cent spike over Friday. Delhi, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka account for the most number of active cases in the country
India's recovery rate now stands at 97.3 per cent. A total of 40,895 patients with Covid-19 recovered in the last 24 hours, which brings the total recoveries to 3,44,12,740 across the country. Meanwhile, India reported 64 new cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus in the last 24 hours. With this, the total caseload of Omicron in India has risen to 3,071, of which 1,203 have recovered. India has administered a total of 90,59,360 doses of Covid-19 vaccine in the last 24 hours, which brings the total tally of doses administered to 1,50,61,92,903.
