The ministry of external affairs on Tuesday summoned the British High Commissioner and conveyed strong opposition to British parliamentarians discussing farm reforms. In a press statement, issued by the ministry of foreign affairs it was said that foreign secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla made it clear that the discussion at UK Parliament represented a gross interference in the politics of another country. Terming this as vote bank politics, he also highlighted that there was a misrepresentation of events.
A group of British MPs debated "use of force" in farmers protest in India drawing flak from the High Commission of India in London. The Indian mission said the discussion was one-sided and as British media were also present at farmers' protest site, the "question of lack of freedom of the media in India does not arise". The official has made it clear that this represented a gross interference in politics of another democratic country. He advised that British MPs should refrain from practicing votebank politics by misrepresenting events, especially in relation to another fellow democracy, the ministry said.
